WILLIAM GUTHRIE (1708 -1770)
William Guthrie was a Scottish historian, journalist, and writer. He studied at Aberdeen University in Scotland and originally intended to become a schoolmaster. Instead, in 1730, he elected to settle in London and pursue literature and writing. He covered parliamentary debates for Gentleman's Magazine which earned him a reputation for being a political writer. Apart from cartography, he published several scholarly works, including a History of England from the Invasion of Julius Caesar to 1688 in four volumes, and Geographical Historical, and Commercial Grammar, which is his most well-known work.
