JOHN RAPKIN (1813-1899)
John Rapkin was an English mapmaker and engraver. Born in Southwark, UK, Rapkin was the son of George Rapkin,; a shoemaker, and his wife Elizabeth Harfy. Rapkin and his brother Richard both became engravers and his other brother, William Harfy Rapkin, became a copperplate printer. He is best known for his work on the Illustrated Atlas of the World 1849-53 for John Tallis and Co., and later re-issued by the London Printing and Publishing Co. London and New York.
