Lucassie Kootoo was born in 1962 and is from Iqaluit, Frobisher Bay, Baffin Island in Nunavut. Animals are his primary subjects, and he is most known for musk oxen. Kootoo hand-carves in the traditional method rather than using modern day power tools.
